A man in Florida recently caught a record-setting, eighteen-foot-long python with his bare hands. That size makes it largest one captured to date as part of Florida's Python Elimination Program, which pays people to help the state contain populations of the invasive species and stop the damage they do to the Everglades' ecosystem.  John Hammond told Spectrum News 13 that he spotted one and "figured at that point it was either write it down and say I saw one or pick it up and say I got one." He continued: "So I grabbed its head, got wrapped up from the waist down and then we fell over, and we laid there for about 30 minutes or so. And I had her head – that face – right there the whole time while she was constricting me from the waist down." Hammond was eventually able to subdue the massive snake, earning himself over $400 and making the Everglades a little safer for the indigenous animals that live there, notes WOFL.
