Different Types of Horse Racing
Horse-racing is one of the oldest sport-betting events, yet somehow, even the biggest of fans fail to distinguish between types of horse racing. Some races put emphasis on speed, whereas some on skill and some on endurance, and each merits a special mention.
Flat Racing: Typically deals with Thoroughbred horses, which take place on a flat leveled surface. In America, the Triple Crown events: Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes are by far the most prominent events.
Jump Racing: A lot of variables go into jump racing, such as the hurdling ability of horse and jockey's control. Also known as National Hunt, this type of races are more prominent in France, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
Harness Racing: Handled by the jockey the horses' race at a specific pace on a two-wheeled cart called a 'sulky'. By far the most attractive event that holds Harness racing is the Prix d’Amerique, which is held yearly in Paris.
Endurance Racing: It challenges horses over longer tracks, or at least for longer periods of time! Currently, the longest endurance race going on is the Mongol Derby, which stretches for a ridiculous 622 miles!
