Two More Blood Pressure
Medications Are Recalled Combinations of the drugs
amlodipine and valsartan
were named in the recall. A combination of the drug tablets
featuring amlodipine, valsartan
and hydrochlorothiazide
was also named. A statement
from Teva
Pharmaceuticals The drug could contain a
possible human carcinogen called
N-nitroso-diethylamine (NDEA). Teva warned that patients
taking the drugs should contact
their doctor or pharmacist
about alternative medications. The company was clear that
stopping the drugs without
an alternative in place could
pose a greater health risk. The recalls reflect an increased
focus by the FDA on drug impurities.
