United States Reach Record High According to the CDC, approximately 39,773 people in the United States were killed by guns in 2017. That is the highest number of firearm-related fatalities since 1979,
the year firearm deaths
started to be recorded. The 39,773 number is an increase of more than 10,000 from 28,874 in 1999. The analysis adds that 23,854 people died from suicide by guns in 2017, the highest number in 18 years. That is 7,000 more than
