Theresa May Survives Confidence Vote

Theresa May
Survives Confidence Vote The British Prime Minister
won the vote of confidence
as leader of the Conservative
Party by 200 to 117. This means that
her position as Prime
Minister is secure for a year. The confidence
vote was triggered by
48 members of her own party. Those members feel that the
Brexit deal May has negotiated
with the E.U. is a betrayal of the
spirit of the 2016 U.K. referendum. Speaking
after the vote, Tory members of parliament
called it "devastating" that
she lost the support
of a third of her party. May vowed to deliver the
Brexit vote that the "people
had voted for" and to bring
the "country back together."
