Susmita Mukherjee had started her initial training of Khayal under Siddheswar Mukhopadhyay. Afterwards, she was trained in Khayal by Pandit Shyamal Lahiri. She has also received adequate talim in Thumri, Dadra and other forms of semi classical music along with classical vocal from Late Vidushi Purnima Choudhury, a renowned maestro of Banaras Gharana.
She is continuing her talim in Khayal under able guidance of Shri Jayanta Pandey, a former scholar of Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata.
