PM's EU advisor says backstop is only way to get Brexit deal

The Prime Minister's Europe Adviser Olly Robbins has told Parliamentary Select Committee on Exiting the European Union that there is "not a withdrawal agreement without a backstop." Mr Robbins described the arrangement, which is to prevent a hard border on the island of Ireland, as a "slightly uncomfortable necessity for both sides." Report by Jonesia.
