A Gender Reveal Party Caused An Actual Wildfire

If you’re going to do a gender reveal party, don’t use a gun and an explosive in a national forest. The US Forest Service released a video showing how a fire that burnt down 47,000 acres and caused $8 million in damages was started.

Dennis Dickey, a US Border Patrol agent, shot at a target containing Tannerite, a highly explosive substance. “Newsweek” reports that Dickey was using a “high-velocity firearm.”

After the resulting explosion turned blue (it’s a boy!), a huge fire was sparked. The flame would eventually become the Sawmill Fire, and would burn nearly 47,000 acres, while requiring nearly 800 firefighters to be put out. Dickey reported the fire to law enforcement.

According to “Newsweek,” Dickey will “pay an up-front restitution fine of $100,000.” From there, he is expected to pay monthly installments that will total in $120,000.
