A group of friends head to the forests of northern California for a weekend-long rave, anticipating nonstop sex, drugs & rock n' roll. But one girl, Samantha (JAMIE KING), stands apart from the rest of the drug-induced, partying group. Troubled and quiet, this is not her idea of a good time but after leaving her abusive boyfriend Jimmy (BALTHAZAR GETTY), Samantha is trying to begin her life anew with Ivan (LUKAS HAAS) and his friends -- Joey (JASON MEWES), Linda, Jack and Sandy. Trouble is, Jimmy doesn't take no for an answer.
At the party site, Officer Buzz Hall (THOMAS JANE) stands watch, gruff and annoyed at the intrusion this concert brings to his small town. Nobody seems pleased about the debauchery this weekend will entail -- including logger Dylan Riggs, who will stop at nothing to protect his land; the redneck, gun-toting truckers who look down on these modern-day hippies; and the local townies that loathe the disturbance and the crowd that it attracts.
Mayhem intensifies when, slowly but surely, concertgoers are targeted one-by-one by an impeccably dressed, mysterious figure. While a young hippie guy is dragged off into the bushes before he can even scream, an old hippie chases a dog into the forest, only to have his head sliced off by a blade.
The next morning, mangled bodies are found throughout the forest. To Buzz's dismay, none of these "discoveries" seem to hinder the concertgoers' pursuit of a good time; after all, this is not the type of crowd that buys into "authority." While the rest of the group is busy getting high on nitrous and ecstasy, Linda and Joey stumble into their version of the Garden of Eden -- an illegal marijuana farm. Before they can indulge in their newfound treasure, they are viciously attacked by three redneck truckers. When the truckers give chase, a third party enters the fray -- the mysterious killer. One of the rednecks' heads is quickly snapped off. As a second redneck attacks Joey, the third one attempts to rape Linda. However, before either of the rednecks can cause much damage, the killer brings down his axe and chops off Joey's hand before hacking and gutting the remaining rednecks to bits.
As the party heats up, Samantha is drugged with acid. Soon, like the rest of her friends, Samantha can neither see nor think straight. Attacked by what she thinks are psychedelic zombies, Samantha stumbles across her friends' bodies, all gruesomely murdered -- Jack and Sandy were butchered and bloodied in the middle of fooling around, while Linda is strung up like a scarecrow.
Now, Samantha is caught in the crosshairs of a psychotic killer's dangerous delusion but how do you escape when you don't even know what's real?
