A team of mercenaries under the command of hard-charging war veteran Mack (Academy Award¨ Winner Cuba Gooding Jr.), are contracted by a mysterious CIA operative named Elissa (Valerie Cruz) to rescue a scientist named Wesley (Ron Perlman) working on an archeological discovery deep under the Middle Eastern desert. Mack and his team of fighters (including Franky G., Zack Ward, Jason London, and Stephanie Jacobsen), though still mourning the loss of their former commander and friend (Ray Winstone), eagerly accept the assignment. The group finds their way by helicopter through a massive sandstorm that has wiped out the research camp. Once inside the underground installation it becomes clear that something has gone terribly wrong. Strange markings are scrawled in fresh blood on the walls. Dead bodies are strewn about the facility bearing bizarre and twisted wounds, some apparently self-inflicted. And most disturbing of all Ð a representative of the scientific group is found suffering from a strange affliction Ð the origin of which is unknown. Using the skills of a computer expert on his first mission with the team (Brandon Fobbs), the soldiers of fortune hack their way into the facility's mainframe and descend a thousand feet below. As the group pushes deeper into the base they encounter more disturbing artifacts from the research and fight their way through a complex filled with disturbing sights and victims of the experiments (including Bill Moseley). Soon the team's medical technician (Taryn Manning) and others begin to lose their grasp on reality as their worst fears and darkest nightmares manifest all around. With the help of a mysterious priest (Henry Rollins) Mack and his team soon discover the true secret of what has been uncovered under the sands. A secret that has been protected for thousands of years. A secret that is not of this Earth. As the survivors battle their way out of this hell, they're confronted by an ancient evil that now controls Wesley. During this confrontation Mack is forced to confront the demons of his past and discover life's true choices in a final showdown between the forces of good and evil.
