Thais Release Loy Krathong Baskets Onto Flooded Road

A submerged road from heavy rain didn't stop these devoted Thais from releasing their Loy Kranthong lanterns - they simply set them sail into the floodwater. The traditional festival is normally one of the most ornate in the country, with millions of people releasing the candle-lit baskets into rivers, lakes and seas to honour the goddess of water and bring good luck for the year ahead. It's an important spiritual event for locals, so when heavy rains caused flash flooding in Pattaya, on the country's east coast, nothing was going to stop them from paying their respects. Footage shows how stranded residents unable to reach the usual beach or lake, simply released their 'krathongs' onto the flooded road as they made a wish.
