AMERICA — Health officials are warning U.S. consumers not to eat any romaine lettuce as it could be contaminated with a strain of E.Coli.

The outbreak has already spread to 11 states across America, along with two provinces in Canada, according to the CDC.

Thirty-two people have already become sick from eating contaminated romaine lettuce in the U.S., according to the BBC.

The CDC is encouraging the public to throw out all romaine lettuce and to wash and sanitize drawers and shelves where the romaine lettuce was stored.

The recent outbreak is believed to be caused by a strain of E. coli identified as O157:H7 which produces a Shiga toxin.

Symptoms of infection can include diarrhea or hemolytic uremic syndrome, a type of kidney failure.

In order to prevent E.Coli infections, the CDC encourages people to wash their hands thoroughly before and after preparing and eating food, wash fruits and vegetables under running water and to cook meat thoroughly to kill harmful germs.

FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb told CNN that he believes the recent E.Coli outbreak could be associated with the end of harvest season in California as most romaine lettuce in the country in harvested from that region.
