Las Vegas officials are dissuading people from giving directly to the homeless. They'd rather you give to charities. Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick says giving blankets, water and sandwiches is not healthy for the homeless. Authorities say giving directly to the homeless can deter them from making contact with groups that offer shelter, job assistance, and addiction help.
