Although Carey’s 2001 film received poor reviews 17 years ago, it is now at the top of the U.S. iTunes Album chart thanks to Mimi’s loyal fans. The singer shared her excitement on Instagram with a ‘Glitter’ picture to celebrate Throwback Thursday. "I have to dedicate today's #tbt to Glitter, which is currently #1 on the iTunes albums chart, 17 years after its release and on the eve of my new album release!" she wrote. LET'S GO #CAUTION." - Mariah Carey, via Instagram The initial failure for the film happened during a time when Carey “suffered an emotional and physical breakdown.” Carey later revealed her bipolar diagnosis. The singer revealed she “really does like” the movie in spite of reviews. “It was something I was trying to do before people were ready. ‘Cause I was like, ‘This is going to be inspired by the ’80s,’ and people… I mean, it was released on Sept. 11, 2001.” - Mariah Carey, on ‘Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen’ She did admit the movie “had so many problems" and should be watched for fun. Carey’s 15th album, ‘Caution,’ comes out Friday.
