Elvis Makes His Movie
Debut in 'Love Me Tender' November 15, 1956 Set in Texas after the Civil War,
the film debuted in New York City
at the Paramount Theater. The title of the movie was
changed to Love Me Tender
before its release, after the song
that Elvis sings in the movie. Elvis played Clint Reno,
the younger brother
of a Confederate soldier. Born in Tupelo, MS, Elvis had
begun his music career two
years earlier with Sun Records. Months before Love Me Tender
opened, Presley's self-titled debut
album went to the top spot on
Billboard’s pop album chart. Presley shot to super-
stardom, becoming
one of the biggest
icons in entertainment history.
