According to a report by Business Insider, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made history when she became the youngest woman to be elected to Congress in the 2018 midterm elections. However, in an interview with the New York Times, she said, "I have three months without a salary before I'm a member of Congress. So, how do I get an apartment?" Business Insider reports that according to Congressional rules, Congress members typically begin receiving their average salary of 174,000 dollars in January.
