Notorious Boston gangster James “Whitey” Bulger was found dead in a West Virginia federal prison on Tuesday, The Wrap reports. Bulger was the subject for Johnny Depp’s 2015 crime film “Black Mass" and also inspired "The Departed." According to The Boston Herald, Bulger had just recently arrived at the high-security penitentiary. The DoJ said in a statement that the FBI has opened an investigation into Bulger’s death. Meanwhile, The Boston Globe has reported that Bulger was killed by an inmate with mafia ties.
