Coca-Cola Is No
Longer Interested
in Cannabis Drinks Last month, the company teased the
possibility of getting into the pot market
via cannabis-infused beverages. Rumors also circulated
that Coke was considering
investing in the Canadian
cannabis company Aurora. Now, CEO James Quincey said the company "doesn't have any plans at this stage" to utilize the non-psychoactive cannabis compound, CBD. Though Coca-Cola has seemingly
bowed out of the cannabis market,
competitor Pepsi hasn't ruled it out. Pepsi CFO Hugh Johnston said, "it's fair to say we
look at everything," but investing in CBD would
be a "considerable challenge," according to CNN. Marijuana remains illegal on a federal level in the U.S. It is legal in nine states and Washington D.C. Many beer, spirit and tobacco makers are still up to
the challenge of breaking into the cannabis market.
