Esther McVey defends Universal Credit

Esther McVey MP has defended the rollout of Universal Credit saying that the new benefits system will "adapt and change" to ensure it is fit for purpose. The Work and Pensions Secretary pointed out that three million people have got back into work since the Conservative Party took office in 2010. The Public Accounts Committee says the Department of Work and Pensions has persistently dismissed evidence that Universal Credit is causing hardship for claimants and additional burdens for local organisations.
