World's longest sea bridge connects China, HK and Macau

CHINA — China has finally completed a 55 km long sea bridge which links Hong Kong's Lantau island to Zhuhai in China as well as Macau.

The structure is supported by three cable-stayed bridges, using 400,000 tons of steel. It is also designed to withstand winds of up to 340 kph, according to the Guardian.

The bridge includes a 6.7 km long submerged tunnel between two artificial islands in shallow waters.

The bridge connects the Greater Bay Area across southern China and encompasses 11 cities in the region.

The bridge was completed after nearly nine years and cost nearly $20 billion.

The bridge was originally supposed to open in 2016, but didn't due to repeated delays.
