Thousands of pro-independence demonstrators rallied in Taiwan’s capital on Saturday to protest against “bullying” from China. The protestors are calling for a referendum on whether the self-ruled island should formally declare independence from China. According to Reuters, the large rally was organized by a group called Formosa Alliance, which was founded six months ago. Relations with Beijing have deteriorated since Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen came into office in 2016.
