Facing the ‘me too’ heat, MJ Akbar resigned from his position as minister of state for external affairs. In a brief statement stated, he has decided to step down from his office and challenge the sexual harassment allegations in a court of law, in his personal capacity. Earlier he stated that he felt humiliated by Priya Ramani and went on to file a defamation case. According to sources, Akbar's resignation comes after PM Narendra Modi's intervention. Over the last fortnight, about 20 women have come forward to narrate their experiences of alleged sexual harassment at the hands of Akbar.
