The third phase of panchayat polls in J&K is underway till now 17% and 23.59% voter turn out was recorded in samba district and Baramulla in phase 3 of polls comprising of 151 wards. While 50 wards have uncontested winners, 39 wards are expected to face the ballot leaving 62 wards vacant as no nominations were filed. The four-phase elections began on October 8 and will end on 16th. Voting has, however, been very dull in Kashmir valley where people have mostly sided with the boycott called by the separatist leadership. The turnout in the first and second phase of polls in Kashmir valley was 8 per cent and three per cent respectively.
