The University of Central Asia's School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPCE) established Satellite Learning Centers in cooperation with Teacher Training Colleges of Darwaz, Ishkashim, Shugnan and Badakhshan University Faizabad, Afghanistan in 2014.

More than 5,500 learners (from 2014 to 2018) have been enrolled in high quality entry and intermediate level courses in Applied English, Information Technology and Accounting. Through training community members, the project is building a foundation for sustained growth in education and employment in Badakhshan.

It was supported by the Multi Input Area Development Global Development Alliance (MIAD GDA) - an alliance between the Aga Khan Foundation and the USAID - US Agency for International Development. The aim of the alliance is to support long-term stability and growth in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan region through improved quality of life and socio-economic development of the residents.
