Graham: Trump Got Worried North Korea Launched Another Missile While Watching Old Footage On TV
  • 6 years ago
Lindsey Graham talked about North Korea and President Trump in a recent interview with the Washington Post.

Senator Lindsey Graham said that he once had to remind President Trump that footage they were watching of North Korean missile launches was "old footage" and not happening live.
The South Carolina lawmaker recounted the story during a recent Washington Post interview in which he said that soon after Trump took office, he was invited to the White House to talk about national security.
The Post report goes on to state: "[Graham] told the president his two biggest concerns were Iran and North Korea, at which point, the television started showing archived footage of North Korean missile launches. The president, Graham said, worried that this was happening in real time. 'That's old footage, old footage!' Graham said he told him, laughing now at the memory."
Despite the humor, some political observers have called out the senator for seeming to flip from being a strong critic of the president to a key supporter.
In fact, former Republican National Committee chair Michael Steele expressed skepticism about Graham's recent backing of Trump to The Guardian, saying: "You only go from 'This guy is a danger to our nation and bad news' to 'Oh my God he's the best thing since sliced bread, let me play golf with him', only if you want something or you expect something. I can't explain it. Only he can explain it."
Some have speculated that Graham's pro-Trump attitude may be motivated by concerns about his next primary election or by an interest in securing a top position in the administration.
As for North Korea, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is currently meeting with leaders in Asia in advance of a potential second summit between Trump and North Korea's Kim Jong-un.
