Gir Lions Death: Deadly virus confirmed; officials aim to secure 33 lions

A day after forest department confirmed that at least 23 lions which died within 3 weeks in Gir had contracted the deadly 'canine distemper virus', officials are now focusing to save 33 lions which have been rescued from the adjoining forest area where the infection has been reported. The 33 lions which were rescued recently are under observation & their blood and tissue samples have been sent to Indian veterinary research institute in to check if any of these lions have also contracted the infection.
