Ahead of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s planned visit to Israel, students from the Bedouin village of Khan al-Ahmar protested at the Representative Office of Germany in Ramallah against an Israeli court order to demolish their school and homes.October 1 marked the end of the period that had been given to the Khan al-Ahmar community to leave their village, according to Haaretz.Footage shared by Zaher Abu Husien, the managing editor of Fateh Watan, the official information outlet for the Palestinian National Authority, shows the students’ protest, where they appealed to Merkel to intervene. The students wrote “Save Khan al-Ahmar” and “We won’t move” on photos of Merkel.On September 13, the European Parliament described the proposed demolition of Khan al-Ahmar and other Bedouin villages as “a grave breach of international humanitarian law.”About 45 Bedouin families live in the Khan al-Ahmar area, Palestinian media reported.
