President Trump on Wednesday responded to the recent New York Times story about his dubious finances.  He tweeted: "The Failing New York Times did something I have never seen done before. They used the concept of 'time value of money' in doing a very old, boring and often told hit piece on me. Added up, this means that 97% of their stories on me are bad. Never recovered from bad election call!"   While the story-percentage math is unclear, the tweet does appear to reference the Times' use of today's dollar values in its piece.
The publication noted: "The president has long sold himself as a self-made billionaire, but a Times investigation found that he received at least $413 million in today's dollars from his father's real estate empire, much of it through tax dodges in the 1990s." After the article's release, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement, in part, "Fred Trump has been gone for nearly twenty years and it's sad to witness this misleading attack against the Trump family by the failing New York Times."
