Gender Stereotypes Plaguing Online Dating, Study Says Online dating may have vastly changed courtship in the modern age, but a new study from the Oxford Internet Institute suggests men and women still exhibit gender stereotypical behaviors when using dating websites. The researchers compiled data from 150,000 eHarmony users over a 10 year period in the U.K. The study reveals that women are much less likely to initiate contact. Women are also more likely to be evaluated on their appearance, age and level of fitness. Men, however, are evaluated based on their income, as women are 30% more likely to consider their partner's income when dating. Looks like gendered roles have some catching up to do,
even online.
