Prince Receiving University of Minnesota Honorary Degree The late singer’s sister, Tyka Nelson, will receive a Doctorate of Humane Letters on Prince’s behalf. The ceremony will be held at the university’s Tedd Mann Concert Hall. The university prepared and planned to present Prince with the degree before his death in 2016. It is in “recognition of his remarkable talent, enduring influence in music and his role in shaping the city of Minneapolis.” The degree is the university’s highest honor. The ceremony will include performances from students and special guests.
