Opposition Leader Solih Says He Has Won Maldives Election

According to Reuters, Maldives opposition leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, announced on Sunday that he has won the election campaign against President Abdulla Yameen. Solih told reporters that this “is a moment of happiness, a moment of hope." He continued to say that “The people of Maldives want change, peace and justice" and called on President Yameen to accept "the will of the people and begin a smooth transition of power." The Election Commission will release the official results by Sept. 30.
