In 1998, a website called NewGrounds allowed anyone to upload original cartoons to the internet. And those cartoons quickly took the internet by storm, even spreading to YouTube by the late 2000's. And 20 years later, in 2018, animation is still one of the biggest genres of online video. But the road here was not that easy.
In today's episode of "A Brief History" we take a look at how online animation ruled the internet, was squashed by YouTube's algorithms, and bounced back stronger than ever!
