In 1985, a catholic priest in the U.S state of Louisiana pled guilty to 11 counts of molestation of underage boys. In 2002, the Boston globe blew the whistle on widespread abuse, paedophilia, molestation, sodomy and rape in the U.S catholic church. Thousands of accusations have since surfaced. For years, the church buried them, kept them secret. The sanctity of the faith and preservance of trust in the defenders of the faith was considered a greater cause than justice for those abused, some who suffered psychological torment for a lifetime. Pope John Paul finally spoke out against this, as did pope Benedict and in March 2014, Pope Francis instituted a pontifical commission for the protection of minors.
