Moment HGV topples over in high winds on M6

This is the dramatic moment an HGV toppled over by high winds on motorway in Cumbria, northwest England, this afternoon (September 19).

In the video, filmed by a passenger in a nearby vehicle, a large blue lorry is seen precariously wobbling in the wind as Storm Ali hit parts of Ireland and the UK.

It then topples over and disappears out of view.

"It's over! It's gone! It's over! F****n hell, that's it, it's over!" says the filmer, who was travelling on the M6 northbound in between junctions 43 and 44 near Carlisle at the time.

"It was a Boughey truck - that's the company – and it did not have a load – that’s why it overturned. It’s far too windy to put back on its wheels as it's in the middle of the bridge are empty.

"It took a few hours from when the video was filmed to the recovery truck getting there to drag it off the fast lane to allow traffic to move. Four traffic police and two fire engines came. One highways truck with diversion stuff on and a big wrecker recovery truck (also came).

"Luckily no one was injured."
