Powerful winds lash out and strengthen as Florence's eyewall nears

This shot of fierce winds was taken in North Topsail Beach, North Carolina on the night of Sept. 13 as Hurricane Florence's eyewall begins to close in towards making landfall. Wilmington reported wind gusts of 105 mph, that's the second highest wind gust ever reported in the city. Gusts of 135 mph were re135 during Hurricane Helene in 1956.
