Sachin Tendulkar 111(373 minutes, 270 balls, 19 fours, 41.11 strike rate) in the second innings v South Africa at Johannesburg on November 28, 1992: Brief score (South Africa 292 & 252; India 227 & 141 for four), match drawn. It was the only hundred in the match as two other batsmen Jonty Rhodes and Brian McMillan were dismissed in the nineties. Tendulkar provided the only resistance in the Indian innings. He made a streaky start against Allan Donald and at ten should have been caught in the slips, but always tried to wrest the initiative. When 33 he became, at 19 years 217 days, the youngest batsman to reach 1000 Test runs, displacing Kapil Dev (21 years 27 days in 1979-80). He was less positive on the third morning but completed his fourth Test hundred shortly after lunch.
