GoPro Footage Reveals the Majesty of Brazil's National Museum Prior to Fire Destruction

A viral video uploaded to Facebook by graphic designer Gabriel Costa shows the Brazil National Museum in Rio de Janeiro before the building was ravaged by a fire that destroyed the majority of its collections on Sunday, September 2.Costa wrote that he had filmed the footage with his GoPro over a six hour period spent walking through all of the exhibits and called the loss of the building “unimaginable.” His video has received over 1,000 reactions and 2,000 shares at the time of writing.The National Museum, a 200-year-old institution, had Latin America’s largest collection of relics and historical documents before the blaze hit, Associated Press reported. A notice on the museum’s website states that the facility is closed to the public indefinitely as curators begin the process of determining what can and cannot be saved.
