The 13th Tour Stop of the Golden Fly Series - the world’s first in-city athletics series already organised in such interesting locations as Rio de Janeiro, Cologne, Munich, Innsbruck and Salzburg - took place in good weather conditions before an enthusiastic crowd of spectators at the Lindaplatz in Schaan in the Principality of Liechtenstein on Saturday 8 September, 2018. Liechtenstein, the smallest state in the German-speaking world, with just 38,000 inhabitants, showed great enthusiasm for this exciting athletics meeting. In the presence of HSH Princess Nora of Liechtenstein, who is a member of the ruling family and also of the International Olympic Committee, 20 top athletes from 15 nations, including 5 world champions, 3 European champions and 8 European Championship 2018, celebrated a thrilling evening of athletics. Held on the purpose-built FlySwat, which measures 72 metres and weighs 25-tonnes, the athletes competed in the Golden Fly Series speciality "Crossfire-Mode" alternating between pole vault and long jump. The men's long jump was dominated by Paralympic world record holder Markus Rehm (GER). He recently set a new world record jumping an incredible 8.48m at the European Paralympic Championships in Berlin. In Liechtenstein he was able to break the 8-metre barrier again and win the competition with 8.14m. Second place went to Zarck Visser (RSA) who jumped 7.91m ahead of Jarvis Gotch (USA) with 7.86 m. A very emotional moment was the farewell of former indoor world champion Ignisious Gaisah (NED), who chose the Golden Fly Series event for his retirement after15 years of successful competing in the long jump. He will now return to his native Ghana to devote himself to the young athletes there. In the women's long jump Krystyna Hryshutyna (UKR) made a great jump of 6.62 m. Her closest competition was Romania’s Alina Rotaru who jumped 6.53m ahead of Nastassia Myronchyk-Ivanova who jumped 6.51m.
