MURICA — In the United States alone head lice causes around six to 12 million infestations a year in children between the ages of three and 11.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, head lice is primarily spread by direct contact with the hair of an infected person.

The most common way to get head lice is through head-to-head contact at places like school, home and outdoor sports or camp activities.
Lice can also be spread when sharing personal care items like combs, brushes, towels and hats.
According to the CDC, head lice should be treated with a pediculicide, a medication that kills head lice, that has an ovicidal effect meant to kill head lice eggs.
