California Passes Bill Banning Sale Of Cosmetics Tested On Animals

California became the first to pass legislation that would ban the sale of cosmetics that have been tested on animals.

The California legislature passed Senate Bill 1249, also known as the California Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act. The bill will go into effect Jan. 1, 2020.

Cosmetics include personal hygiene products such as makeup, deodorant and shampoo.

The bill was backed by animal rights groups, celebrities, dozens of cosmetic companies.
