'EC will assess if Telangana elections can be held with other four states,' says OP Rawat
  • 6 years ago
Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat has said that the Commission will assess whether polls in Telengana can be held simultaneously with Rajasthan, Madhaya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh. ‘There is no specific reference in the Constitution for this, but there is precedent that says that whenever any house is dissolved, the election in that state should take place at the first available opportunity,’ said Rawat. Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday recommended dissolving the state assembly, nine months before its term ends. Polling in Telangana is due in April-May when the country will vote in the general elections. The final decision on whether to hold an early election in the state now rests with the Election Commission.
