Morning MTB ride on the rocks

When you hear Edvard Grieg, you know it's morning again. It's 10 minutes to seven, and I'm about to take full advantage of South Florida's most prized asset, the coastline.

I know we've talked about the benefits of riding early before, but actually watching the sun rise is incredible. You may have ridden your bike on a boardwalk or something close to the beach, but the moist sand by the coast is actually rideable. Just make sure to hose your bike off later.

Because the sun is at such a low angle, the atmosphere absorbs the blue light and makes everything look orange. All the shadows look really dramatic, causing textured surfaces have more contrast. Photographers and cinematographers know this as golden hour, when everything just looks, “doper”.

I've been out to these rocks on foot a bunch of times, but always wondered what it would be like to ride them. I'm probably better off on a smaller bike, but there are a surprising amount of rideable lines here. With a lot of practice I could probably get from one end to the other. Someone with trials skills would have a really good morning here.

Once the sun climbs higher the beach fills up with tourists, and I should probably get the hell off the rocks. Plus, I’ve gotta be at work soon. Thanks for riding with me this morning, and I’ll see you next time.
