Defense Secretary James Mattis reportedly compared President Trump to a grade-school child.
Legendary journalist Bob Woodward writes in his upcoming book, 'Fear,' that the comment was made after Trump asked why the U.S. expends so many resources on the Korean Peninsula.
According to a book excerpt published by the Washington Post, Mattis replied it was to "prevent World War III."
"Mattis was particularly exasperated and alarmed, telling close associates that the president acted like — and had the understanding of — 'a fifth- or sixth-grader,'" Woodward further notes.
NBC News reported in late June that Trump is increasingly acting either against or without the advice of Mattis on a number of matters, including making a concession to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and withdrawing the U.S. from its nuclear deal with Iran.
