Aretha Franklin's Family Criticizes Pastor for 'Offensive' Eulogy Rev. Jasper Williams Jr.'s eulogy at the Queen of Soul's funeral is being ripped apart by her family as
“offensive” and “distasteful." Vaughn Franklin, Aretha's brother, via 'Detroit Free Press' In his eulogy, Williams claimed a black woman cannot raise a black boy to be a man. Some have interpreted this as an insult toward the “Respect” singer, a single mother of four boys. He also talked about black-on-black crime and described children who do not have a father as suffering from “abortion after birth.” Franklin did not personally select Williams, pastor of Salem Bible Church in Atlanta, for the role prior to her death. Vaughn Franklin says they asked Williams to perform the eulogy because he had done so for several family members before.
