Ueli Steck Undertakes Outrageous Pedal-Powered Mountain Mission | EpicTV Climbing Daily, Ep. 529

Ueli Steck is a massive name in the climbing world and beyond, and rightly so. His achievements in the greater ranges are truly unparalleled and his position as a mountain athlete is beyond question. Even by his standards however, his latest undertaking is a mammoth challenge of both quality and quantity. Ueli has teamed up with his friend and fellow alpinist Michi Wohlleben to tackle this mammoth task which involves climbing all 82 of the 4,000 metre peaks in the Alps in one summer entirely under their own power. That means no lifts and no cars! Instead the pair will be using pedal-power to cycle between the mountains, ascending them on foot and descending many by paraglider. In total, they will be climbing 82 peaks, cycling 1,000 kilometres and ascending over 100,000 vertical metres using just human power, all in just 80 days. Bad weather hampered the project early on but the team have been making better progress recently. However, Michi has unfortunately succumbed to injury and Ueli has decided to carry on alone. He’s not without support though because Robert Bosch is joining him to take photos and Daniel Mader has been filming the whole thing. We’re going to grab a word with Ueli in the near future to find out how they’re getting on, and there will be lots more to come about the project on EpicTV. In the meantime, you can check out 82summits.com for more details. Last up today we've got Best of the Bunch and this week we're talking to the guys at BananaFingers to determine just what is the best harness for performance sport climbing. For those redpointing top-end projects, the main harness options include the Black Diamond Ozone, the Petzl Hirundos and the Edelrid Atmosphere, but which will be crowned best of the bunch?
