2) Kilian Journet breaks the speed record on the Matterhorn, climbing the mountain in 2hrs 52, return from Cervinia. This is an AD alpine route which takes in 2500m of elevation. It's not "hard" but this is re-writing the rules as much as any first ascent in the Himalayas.
