Global Need For Lithium Is Fueling 'Water War' In Chilean Desert

More than one-third of the world’s current supply of lithium comes from the world's driest desert. Lithium is an ultra-light metal used in electric car batteries, mobile phones and lap-tops. The lithium mines are located in the salt flats of the Salar de Atacama, in Chile. Demands for water are growing in the Salar region, but there's a problem, Reuters reports. No one knows for certain how much water there is in the region.
