Fruit farmers are struggling to find pickers due to Brexit
  • 6 years ago
British fruit farmers say they face a bleak future and are struggling to find pickers to harvest crops - because of Brexit.

The industry has always relied on a foreign workforce and without guaranteed migrant labour when Britain leaves the EU - farmers fear fruit will be left to rot in the fields.

Jeremy Best, the owner of Mitchell Fruit Garden, is among those to rely on Czech workers and says that he cannot 'find any Brits' to do the job.

He said the problem was compounded by the falling value of the pound, which has encouraged migrants to labour in other countries not affected by Brexit.
