51% of the Gambian population are women. They are farmers, entrepreneurs and leaders, and their contributions sustain their families and communities. Yet, they face some of the worst inequalities in access to social services and land. This deprives them of the realisation of their full potential.

The EU is committed to transforming the lives of girls and women, and breaking the vicious cycle of gender discrimination. This includes support to partner countries like The Gambia to establish a more enabling environment for the fulfilment of girl's and women's rights to achieve real and tangible improvements on gender equality.
