Heavy rains pummeled Big Island on August 23 as Hurricane Lane drew closer to Hawaii.

This video, filmed by Ken Boyer, shows the flood situation in Hilo in the morning.

Hurricane Lane, forecast to make landfall in the state, lashed the Big Island with floods and rainstorms. Shelters were opened up on Big Island and in Maui, Molokai and Lanai to residents in danger zones.

The hurricane was downgraded to a Category 3 storm later in the day.
